Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will need surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, the club said on Wednesday. The injury occurred during Tuesday’s 4-2 league phase win over Barcelona at the Parc des Princes.
In a statement, PSG said the Georgia international tore the ligament in his right knee and is set to undergo surgery in the coming days. The 25-year-old slumped to the turf without any apparent contact and left the pitch just before the hour mark.
Dembele and Marquinhos also sidelined through injury
The club said forward Ousmane Dembele and central defender Marquinhos will both be out for ‘several weeks’ with thigh injuries. Kvaratskhelia had played a leading role in helping PSG win back-to-back Champions League titles.
Dembele, the current Ballon d’Or holder, and Kvaratskhelia are among the contenders for this year’s award, which will be presented on Monday.
