Islamabad Traffic Police have announced a diversion plan after closing the road between Rawal Dam Chowk and Kashmir Chowk from October 15 until further notice. The closure is needed to allow construction work on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass along Club Road, according to a police statement issued on Thursday.
The traffic police warned that flow would be disrupted on several roads during the diversions and urged commuters to choose other routes. Motorists have been advised to allow an extra 20 to 25 minutes for their journeys.
Alternative routes for drivers heading towards Rawalpindi and Murree
Motorists leaving G-5, the Secretariat and Serena Hotel for Rawalpindi can take Srinagar Highway and 9th Avenue, or Srinagar Highway and Mehrabad-Peshawar Road. Alternatively, they can make a U-turn at Lake View and use Murree Road or Club Road.
Those heading to Murree and Bhara Kahu have been told to pass through Faizabad, Faisal Avenue, Zero Point, the Srinagar Highway underpass and Jinnah Square, then continue towards Konriyan Wala Chowk.
Routes into Islamabad and official traffic updates
Traffic coming from Rawalpindi into Islamabad should use 9th Avenue, Faqir Aipee Road and Srinagar Highway. Drivers travelling from Park Road and Lehtrar Road towards Islamabad have been asked to use Tulip Hotel Road, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian Road and Seventh Avenue.
The police said officers would be deployed to help commuters during the diversions. Updates will be broadcast on Islamabad Traffic Police FM 92.4, and citizens were asked to follow the Islamabad Police’s social media accounts for further information.
