Iran has received no reply from Saudi Arabia or Yemen’s Houthis to its offer to help mediate talks aimed at ending their fighting, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in a television interview aired on Tuesday.
Araqchi made the offer as the Iran-aligned Houthis stepped up strikes on Saudi Arabia earlier this month. In an interview with Iraq’s Al Ekhbariya TV, he also addressed whether Egypt might join Saudi Arabia in its conflict with the Houthis.
Araqchi’s warning on foreign intervention in Yemen
“Any foreign intervention would complicate matters,” he said. He added that Cairo had previously told Tehran it would “not directly” interfere in the Yemeni conflict.
Egypt has said it is ready to give Saudi Arabia the support it needs to defend its security, a stance that could raise the stakes across the Middle East.
