The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formally released the schedule for local government elections in Islamabad, announcing that polling will be held on December 20.
Candidates can submit nomination papers from November 2 to November 6, and election symbols will be allotted on November 26. On polling day, voting will run without a break from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The announcement came on Wednesday.
Restrictions on officials, politicians and projects
Following the schedule’s issuance, the ECP banned the transfer and posting of government officials in the federal capital. Under its guidelines, the Prime Minister, President, ministers and members of parliament are barred from taking part in the election campaign for the Islamabad local polls.
The commission has also prohibited the announcement of any new development projects in the capital.
