An Islamabad district and sessions court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for raping his stepdaughter repeatedly over a year, while her mother was absent. The convict, identified as Iftikhar, was also ordered to pay Rs3.5 million in fines and compensation to the victim and to the child born from the crime.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Sohail announced the verdict after finding the accused guilty. The written judgment sets out the breakdown: a fine of Rs500,000, Rs1 million in compensation for the victim, and Rs2 million for the child’s upkeep.
Forensic evidence central to the Islamabad conviction
The court based its decision largely on forensic material presented during the trial. DNA testing carried out by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency linked the accused to the offence. According to the judgment, the child’s DNA profile matched that of the convict, which supported the prosecution’s case.
The case was registered at Shahzad Town Police Station in February 2025, following a complaint from the victim’s mother. After weighing the evidence, the court convicted Iftikhar and imposed the death sentence along with the financial orders.
Rawalpindi suspect killed in alleged CCD encounter
In a separate case, police said a suspect accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his 15-year-old niece was killed in an alleged encounter with a Crime Control Department (CCD) team in Rawalpindi. The man, identified as Mumrez Abbasi from Abbottabad, died in an exchange of gunfire near Alamabad Stop, close to Children’s Park, within the limits of Ratta Amral Police Station.
Two of his alleged accomplices managed to flee, and a search operation is underway to arrest them. Police said they recovered a .30-bore pistol and ammunition from the dead suspect. Officers also said he had allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled his niece a few days earlier.
