Women’s T20 World Cup Prize Pool Set at $8.8 Million in 2024

The upcoming Women’s Twenty20 World Cup will feature a record prize pool of $8.8 million, with the champions set to receive $2.3 million, the highest in the tournament’s history. The 12-team event is scheduled to take place in England and Wales starting June 12, with New Zealand aiming to defend the title they secured in 2024.

Meanwhile, the runners-up will be awarded $1.17 million, while each of the two losing semi-finalists will earn $675,000. Every team participating is guaranteed a minimum prize of $248,000, ensuring broad financial support across the competition.

In a significant development, the prize fund for this tournament is smaller compared to the recent men’s and women’s World Cups held in the Indian subcontinent over the past three years. Last year’s 50-over Women’s World Cup, hosted by India and Sri Lanka, boasted a prize pool of $13.9 million—the largest ever for an ICC event—with a 297% increase from its 2022 edition. The champions India took home $4.5 million.

Similarly, the 2023 men’s 50-over World Cup in India offered $10 million in prize money, while this year’s men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka featured a prize pool of $11.25 million.

Notably, ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta highlighted that the growing investment and opportunities in women’s cricket reflect the expanding influence and impact of female athletes on the global sports stage.
