Investigators working for the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore have arrested the suspected mastermind of an international online scam valued at Rs35 billion.
Investigators allege that a website built to sell fake US postage stamps was used to sell more than five million counterfeit stamps. Authorities said raids were carried out at 35 locations in Punjab, Islamabad and Sindh as part of the operation against the suspect.
Zero-tolerance crackdown targets cyber fraud
The NCCIA said the crackdown falls under the zero-tolerance policy of its Director General, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. It targets international cyber fraud and activities that could harm Pakistan’s reputation.
Rs2 million recovered for Multan complainant
The agency’s Multan Circle has recovered Rs2 million belonging to a citizen who said the money was taken from his bank account after his mobile phone was hacked. The complainant, Adeel Haris Siddiqui, approached the NCCIA in Multan after finding the sum had been withdrawn.
Siddiqui said the agency acted quickly on his complaint and helped retrieve the stolen amount. The NCCIA said the recovery is part of its wider effort to protect citizens from financial fraud and help victims recover money lost to cybercrime.
