Laiba Ijaz case: main accused killed in Islamabad police firing

Police said Muhammad Noman, the main accused in the case linked to the death of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) gold medallist Laiba Ijaz, died after gunmen opened fire on the team transporting him in Islamabad.

Noman was in custody and being taken for recovery, based on his identification, within the limits of Ramna police station. Four men on two motorcycles then fired on the convoy in what appeared to be an effort to free him.

Police team attacked while moving main suspect

Noman was wounded in the shooting and later died. Officers were unharmed, which police attributed to bulletproof jackets and other precautionary steps. A search operation has been launched to arrest the attackers and their accomplices.

Noman was the main accused in the case concerning Laiba Ijaz, who took her own life after allegedly being cheated of Rs9 million with a promise of sending her to the United States for education.

Mansehra job fraud case against Noman

Investigators have also uncovered details of a separate fraud case registered against Noman in Mansehra. According to sources, he and alleged accomplices were accused of defrauding a family of Rs8.5 million by promising government jobs for six children.

The suspects allegedly gave the family appointment letters that were later found to be forged when checked. After the family filed a case, Noman reportedly went into hiding, and a court declared him a proclaimed offender, sources said. The search for the men who attacked the police team is still ongoing.
