Balochistan Launches Thresher Fuel Subsidy to Support Farmers Amid Price Hike

The Balochistan government has unveiled a significant agricultural relief initiative aimed at supporting farmers grappling with rising fuel prices, a challenge intensified by ongoing regional tensions. This move comes as part of the provincial administration’s efforts to alleviate the financial burden on the agricultural community, particularly small landowners and farmers who form the backbone of Balochistan’s rural economy.

In a notable development, Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti announced the formal launch of the Thresher Fuel Subsidy Scheme, under which initial payments have already been credited to the accounts of 3,102 farmers. He further stated that within the next two to three days, the subsidy will be extended to an additional 13,128 farmers, reflecting the government’s commitment to a phased and inclusive distribution process.

To date, a total of 85,000 farmers have registered for the program across the province, with verification completed for more than 74,000 applicants. This extensive registration underscores the widespread need for financial assistance among the agricultural sector. The Chief Minister emphasized that priority is being given to small-scale farmers and landowners to ensure that those most vulnerable receive timely support.

Highlighting the broader impact of the subsidy, CM Bugti noted that the fuel assistance will significantly reduce the operational costs associated with threshing, a critical post-harvest activity. He reassured the farming community that the government remains steadfast in its support during these challenging economic times and continues to implement effective measures to safeguard agricultural production. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to stabilize the agricultural sector and sustain livelihoods amid fluctuating fuel prices and external pressures.
