At least 10 killed as bus overturns in Rajanpur, Punjab

At least 10 passengers were killed and 32 others were injured when a bus travelling at high speed struck a divider and flipped near Bangla Hidayat on the Indus Highway in Rajanpur district, Punjab, rescue officials said on Tuesday. The bus was heading from Karachi to Dera Ghazi Khan at the time.

Rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and moved the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.

Maryam Nawaz orders treatment and action after crash

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said in a statement that she grieved over the lives lost and extended condolences to the bereaved families. She instructed the Rajanpur deputy commissioner to go to the site and oversee rescue work.

She also asked officials to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured and prayed for their speedy recovery. An emergency was declared at the District Headquarters Hospital in Rajanpur and other nearby hospitals. She further directed officials to take immediate action against those responsible.

Multan crash adds to concerns over road safety

Road accidents are frequently reported on highways and motorways across Pakistan, often linked to speeding, reckless driving, driver fatigue and poor vehicle maintenance, with deteriorating road conditions also contributing.

The Rajanpur crash came a day after five people were killed when a car being driven at excessive speed struck a road divider in Multan. All five occupants were residents of Shujaabad.
