In Gujranwala, a man accused of child assault was killed during a police encounter, officials confirmed. The suspect, identified as Arsalan alias Shani, was in police custody on physical remand related to the abduction and sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
The incident occurred within the Khiali police station’s jurisdiction while the suspect was being transported for further investigation. Police reported that Arsalan tried to flee, and his accomplices opened fire on the police team to facilitate his escape. During the exchange of gunfire, the suspect was struck by bullets fired by his own associates and died instantly.
Authorities revealed that the accused had abducted the minor at gunpoint on April 3, 2026, as she was en route to a madrassa, subsequently subjecting her to sexual assault. Arsalan reportedly had a criminal history involving serious offenses such as child abduction, sexual violence, and human trafficking.
Meanwhile, police noted that three separate encounters occurred in different parts of the district, resulting in two other suspects being arrested while injured. City Police Officer Dr. Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan emphasized the strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against crimes targeting women and children, stating that offenders will face no mercy under the law.
