Justin Bieber Faces Backlash for ‘Lazy’ Coachella 2026 Performance

Canadian pop artist Justin Bieber encountered significant criticism following his headline performance at Coachella 2026. Observers accused the singer of delivering a “lazy” set after he appeared to stream portions of his own songs from YouTube during the show.

During the iconic festival, Bieber reportedly used a laptop on stage to play tracks while intermittently singing along, which led to disappointment among fans who anticipated a more conventional live concert experience. Prior to the event, reports emerged that Bieber was paid $10 million (£7 million) for his appearance, intensifying scrutiny and comparisons to Sabrina’s highly praised performance the previous night.

Social media users expressed dissatisfaction with the minimalistic production, noting the sparse staging, limited engagement with the audience, and reliance on pre-recorded audio. Many questioned whether Bieber’s performance met the high expectations usually associated with a Coachella headliner.

Meanwhile, reactions to the show were mixed. Some supporters defended Bieber’s approach, describing it as deliberately subdued and intimate, emphasizing emotional connection over elaborate theatrics. The concert also marked a notable comeback for Bieber, who has kept a relatively low profile in recent years.

In a significant development, despite the backlash, the performance has attracted widespread online attention, sparking ongoing debate about whether Bieber’s style was an innovative experiment or simply disappointing to his audience.
