Disney explores Star Wars Battlefront 3 with Bungie and EA DICE

Disney is reportedly keen on a third Star Wars Battlefront game and is already looking for a studio to develop it, according to US gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM). Fans have waited for a sequel since Star Wars Battlefront II came out in 2017.

EGM said two studios are under consideration: EA DICE and Bungie. The claim comes from the “Quartermann” rumour column in EGM issue 265, published on October 9. Gaming journalist Jeff Grubb discussed the report on his Game Mess Mornings podcast on October 19.

Why DICE and Bungie are being considered

Most fans expected DICE to be considered, as the Swedish studio made Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Battlefront II (2017). Bungie, known for Halo and Destiny, is a more surprising choice. It is now owned by Sony and has mostly worked on its own games lately, so an EA series would be a new direction for it.

Grubb suggested Bungie could get involved because of its financial struggles. Sony recently took heavy losses on the studio and announced major layoffs in June 2026. Still, Grubb believes DICE is more likely to be chosen.

Fans and reports weigh the two developers

The news has excited fans on Reddit, but reactions to the two possible developers are mixed. Reports say both studios have lost many experienced staff in recent years and have changed considerably. Bungie still receives praise for the gunplay in the Destiny games, and some fans would like a Battlefront game with shooting that feels as satisfying.

No confirmed development deal yet

It remains unclear whether Star Wars Battlefront 3 will happen, or when. EGM says neither studio has officially agreed to make the game so far.
