Harry Kane Eyes Bundesliga Record After Key Brace in Bayern’s Dortmund Victory

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is steadily closing in on Robert Lewandowski’s longstanding single-season Bundesliga goals record following his impressive performance in Saturday’s thrilling 3-2 victory against Borussia Dortmund. The England captain demonstrated his clinical finishing by scoring twice, including a composed penalty, helping Bayern overturn the deficit and deal a significant blow to Dortmund’s hopes of retaining the Bundesliga title.

Kane’s brace marked his fourth consecutive league game with multiple goals, bringing his tally for the current campaign to 30. This places him just 11 goals shy of Lewandowski’s record of 41, which was set during the 2020-21 season while playing for Bayern. The striker’s recent form has sparked widespread discussion about his potential to rewrite Bundesliga history, a feat that seemed almost untouchable until Lewandowski himself shattered Gerd Müller’s previous record of 40 goals from the 1971-72 season.

Reflecting on his current run of form, Kane expressed confidence but remained measured about the challenge ahead. “I’m in a good moment. I’ve got to keep doing what I’m doing,” he said in a post-match interview. With 10 games still left to play this season, Kane acknowledged the importance of maintaining consistency to reach the milestone. “It’s a question that comes up after almost every game now, but there’s still a long way to go. I need to keep performing week in, week out. We’ll see by late April or early May if it’s achievable,” he added.

Beyond the Bundesliga, Kane’s overall goal count for the season has reached an impressive 45 across all competitions, marking the most prolific period of his career. The 32-year-old striker credited this purple patch to a combination of sharp finishing and a bit of fortune, noting how strikers sometimes experience phases where nearly every attempt finds the back of the net. “Sometimes as a striker, you go through spells where almost everything you touch goes in, whether you finish well or not,” Kane remarked during an interview with ESPN.

The victory over Dortmund not only boosted Kane’s personal statistics but also extended Bayern’s lead at the top of the Bundesliga table to 11 points, putting them in a commanding position to secure yet another league title. However, Kane urged caution and focus, reminding his teammates that the race is far from over. “We had an 11-point lead a few weeks ago, and we all saw how quickly things can change with just a couple of results,” he warned. “We have to stay focused and keep pushing. This win was a big moment for us, but the season is still ongoing.”

As Bayern Munich continues their pursuit of another Bundesliga crown, all eyes will be on Kane to see if he can surpass Lewandowski’s remarkable record. His blend of experience, skill, and determination suggests that the England captain is well-positioned to make history in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
