The Islamabad Traffic Police have closed the road from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk for two days, October 24 and 25, and announced diversions for motorists. The route from Serena Hotel to Kashmir Chowk will also remain fully shut during the same period.
Commuters have been told to set off 20 to 25 minutes earlier than usual, as traffic on several roads may be disrupted while the diversions are in place. Drivers are urged to choose alternative routes to avoid delays.
Alternative routes for drivers from G-5 and the Secretariat
Under the plan, people travelling from G-5, the Secretariat and Serena Hotel towards Rawalpindi may take Srinagar Highway and Ninth Avenue, or head along Srinagar Highway toward Mehrabadi and Peshawar Road. Another option is a U-turn at Lake View, after which they can use Murree Road or Club Road.
Those heading to Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road and Lehtrar Road have been advised to use Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, Shakarparian Road, Tulip Hotel Road and Rawal Dam Road. Travellers bound for Murree and Bhara Kahu can use Faisal Avenue through Faizabad, Zero Point and the Srinagar Highway underpass, then continue via Jinnah Square and Konrayan Wala Chowk.
Vehicles entering Islamabad from Rawalpindi can use Ninth Avenue, Faqir Aipi Road and Srinagar Highway. Those coming from Park Road and Lehtrar Road have been advised to take Tulip Hotel Road, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian Road and Seventh Avenue.
Traffic police deployment and live updates for commuters
The Chief Traffic Officer said police personnel will stay deployed throughout the diversion period to help commuters. Updates will be broadcast on ITP FM 92.4, and residents are asked to follow the Islamabad Police social media pages for further information.
