Three sentenced over Islamabad online investment fraud

An Islamabad court has sentenced three accused, one of them a foreign national, to seven years in prison each in an online investment fraud case, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) said on Thursday.

In a post on X, the agency said the Islamabad Circle secured the convictions through a thorough investigation and court proceedings. The court also imposed a combined penalty of Rs250,000 on the three convicts.

According to the agency, the group cheated a citizen out of Rs19.391 million by drawing them into an investment scheme run through a bogus app that posed as belonging to a foreign private bank. Sub-Inspector Shehroz Riaz conducted the investigation, the NCCIA said, adding that it would keep pursuing legal action against cybercrime suspects and working to protect the public.
