Police in Multan have detained a man they accuse of planning a reported rape and robbery in the Shah Shams area, an incident that investigators now believe was staged.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect, Abid, allegedly hired a couple to fake the attack so that a business rival would be drawn into a criminal case.
Police said the arrangement was priced at Rs.200,000, and Abid allegedly handed over Rs.30,000 up front.
Investigators said technical evidence, preliminary medical examinations and other material showed that the incident had been made up.
Police said the couple allegedly involved in the staging has fled, and raids are underway to detain them.
