K-Electric has announced that several areas of Karachi have gained loadshed exempt status following its quarterly review of the network. The utility credited timely bill payments by customers and sustained efforts to curb electricity theft for the change. Several other areas have also moved into categories that point to a reduction in their loadshed.

The company said a significant number of localities had shifted from the medium loss category to the low loss category and are now exempt. Under the same review, a further group of areas moved from high loss to medium loss, and these are expected to see reduced loadshed.

Areas moving into lower loss categories

Among the areas that have become loadshed exempt are parts of Korangi, including Abdullah Shah Noorani Colony, Pak Ittehad Colony, Zaman Town, and several sectors numbered 48-A to 48-E. Parts of Azizabad, including Block 2 and Block 8 in Federal B Area, along with Bhangoria Goth, Block 9 Yasinabad and Naimat Colony, are also on the list.

Other areas in the same category include Kyani Shaheed and Randle Road, APWA Complex Road, Jubilee Cloth Market, and Biltistani Mohalla Jacob Lines. The company also named Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Colony, Altaf Town, Deh Dih Tapo Ibrahim Hyderi Goth, some parts of the SITE area, and Sectors L-1 and 5-D of Surjani Town.

K-Electric linked this progress to lower Aggregated Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses and to engagement with local area representatives. According to the company, these efforts encouraged customers to pay bills on time, which improved the feeder profiles of these areas.

Areas set for reduced loadshed and wider exemption

Areas moving from high loss to medium loss include Saadat Colony, Moria Khan Goth, Soldier Bazar, Tagore Street, Aminabad Society, and Martin Quarters in Jamshed Town. Parts of Orangi Town, such as Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz, Millat Colony, Madina Colony and Al-Mustafa Colony, are also expected to see a similar profile shift.

The company said nearly 70 percent of its service territory, covering more than 2,100 feeders, remains loadshed exempt. The updated schedule is available on the company’s website and takes effect immediately. Customers can check the latest information through the KE Live App and the KE WhatsApp service. The previous review was conducted in July 2026.

KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the company is committed to providing reliable and smooth electricity supply. He said the improvement in various communities showed the importance of timely bill payment and cooperation to reduce line losses. He also credited residents, area representatives and elected officials for helping the company tackle electricity theft.

Anti-theft drives and cooperation with authorities

K-Electric said it conducts a data-driven quarterly review of its network to ensure transparency and accuracy. The company also said it will support community representatives and elected officials who are willing to work with the utility on challenges to reliable supply.

Since the start of fiscal year 2026-27, the company said it has carried out nearly 5,000 kunda removal drives and removed more than 44,000 kilogrammes of illegal wires used to siphon off electricity. The spokesperson said the company is working with government and law enforcement agencies against those involved in power theft. Areas with a high prevalence of theft will remain under continuous monitoring until the next review, he added.
