Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on Wednesday that Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace while highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic contributions to reducing tensions between the United States and Iran. He called for unity among Muslim nations to achieve lasting harmony.

Speaking at a conference organized by the Pakistan Ulema Council, the prime minister congratulated the hosts and noted that the event reflected a strong spirit of solidarity within the Muslim Ummah. He remarked that such gatherings demonstrate collective determination, focus, and commitment to tackling the contemporary challenges facing the Muslim world.

In a significant development, PM Sharif pointed out that the United States and Iran engaged in direct negotiations for the first time since 1979. He explained that through effective diplomacy, both parties agreed to a temporary ceasefire, which was subsequently extended. He expressed gratitude to all involved for accepting Pakistan’s invitation to conduct talks in Islamabad, underscoring Pakistan’s key role in facilitating these discussions and the ceasefire.

“Pakistan has taken on a modest yet meaningful responsibility for the Muslim world,” he stated, expressing hope that this dialogue would soon lead to enduring peace. Meanwhile, he acknowledged the contributions of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, along with China, Turkey, and other nations, in advancing these peace efforts.

The prime minister also praised Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for his relentless diplomatic efforts and commended Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for his instrumental role in securing the ceasefire and supporting the negotiations.

PM Sharif highlighted that the teachings and life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) serve as a beacon for humanity, urging people to embrace compassion, dialogue, and exemplary behavior to resolve current challenges. He affirmed that Pakistan maintained a balanced and principled stance throughout the recent crisis and remains committed to promoting peace in the region.

He stressed that sustainable peace would not only enhance regional stability but also foster economic growth and job creation. Calling on citizens to embody kindness and ethical conduct, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to defending the Two Holy Mosques, describing it as a matter of utmost importance. He noted that the country’s defense agreement with Saudi Arabia reflects this dedication.

Concluding his address, PM Sharif affirmed that the entire nation, from Peshawar to Karachi, stands united in reaffirming Pakistan’s resolve to play a constructive role in fostering lasting peace and stability across the region.
