Sources said the federal government has placed a temporary six-month freeze on the setting up of new nursing and midwifery institutions.
The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) has sent formal notifications about the measure to both federal and provincial governments.
According to sources, the restriction is meant to give the council time to clear a backlog of pending cases. During the six-month period, the PNMC will not accept or process new inspection applications from prospective institutions.
Applications that have already been submitted will continue to be processed. Sources added that new applications will be entertained only after the competent authority grants approval once the six-month period has ended.
