The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday expressed concern over the delay in forming a joint investigation team (JIT) to recover a missing citizen in Karachi.

The constitutional bench said missing persons cases are “extremely serious and sensitive” and that concerned authorities should take immediate and coordinated steps. It also observed that the disappearance of a loved one causes extreme mental and psychological distress for the family.

Investigating officer reports no reply to JIT requests

The investigation officer submitted a report on the proposed JIT. He said he had written letters seeking a team to recover Azeem Shaikh, who is reported missing in the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police jurisdiction, but had received no reply from the competent authorities.

Court orders prompt JIT formation and adjourns hearing

The bench ordered that steps for forming the JIT be taken without any delay. It directed the focal person of the Sindh home department to ensure prompt implementation of the court’s decision.

The hearing was adjourned until November 26.
