Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has shared a video showing a petrol pump employee slapping a man, posting it on Saturday after the man was arrested over an alleged assault at a Lahore petrol station. The incident took place in Jubilee Town, where police say the man assaulted and threatened the employee after being asked not to smoke at the pump because of the risk of fire.

According to Lahore DIG Operations, police registered a case on the employee’s complaint and began an investigation.

Suspect traced through rental records and arrested

During the inquiry, investigators found that the vehicle used by the man had been rented. They identified him through rental records and receipts, and he was later arrested.

Police said the man fled the scene after assaulting and threatening the employee. He was taken into custody in a police operation, during which he reportedly resisted arrest, and police said a weapon was recovered from his possession.

Chief minister says no one is above the law

Maryam Nawaz shared footage of the arrest on the social media platform X. The clip also showed the petrol pump employee slapping the suspect when he was brought to the police station.

Describing the slap, she wrote that it was a “tight slap in the face” of entitled, spoiled people who look down on the poor as lesser human beings. She said such individuals arrogantly believe money and power place them above the law, allowing them to exploit and intimidate others without consequences.

She said she stood firmly with the oppressed, however powerful their oppressors might be. She argued that wealth, influence or political connections should not allow anyone to escape accountability, and that justice is a fundamental right of every citizen rather than a privilege of the rich.

The chief minister also said that no one is above the law and that no victim should have to fight alone because the alleged perpetrator has money or influence.
