Iran Insists on $24 Billion Frozen Assets Before Trump Deal

In a significant development, Iran has set a firm condition for any potential negotiations with former US President Donald Trump, insisting on the release of $24 billion in frozen assets. These funds have been held under sanctions imposed by the United States, severely limiting Iran’s access to international financial resources. The demand highlights Tehran’s strategic leverage in ongoing diplomatic tensions and economic negotiations with Washington.

These frozen assets represent a substantial portion of Iran’s overseas reserves, which were blocked following the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal under Trump’s administration. The move to tie any deal to the unfreezing of these funds underscores Iran’s insistence on economic relief as a critical component of any agreement. It also reflects the broader challenges in reviving diplomatic relations amid mutual distrust and geopolitical rivalry.

Meanwhile, this stance could complicate efforts to restart talks or reach a new accord, as the Trump administration had previously taken a hardline approach to sanctions enforcement. The demand for such a large sum before any deal signals Iran’s prioritization of economic recovery and sanctions relief. This development will likely influence international diplomatic strategies and the future of US-Iran relations.
