A district court in Karachi on Saturday approved bail for Iqrar-ul-Hassan, chief of the Awam Raj Tehreek, in a case over alleged anti-state content shared on social media. The court directed the journalist and former television host to submit surety bonds worth Rs 200,000.

The decision follows an earlier setback for his bail plea. On October 22, 2026, the Judicial Magistrate-East had dismissed the application.

NCCIA remand request and challan deadline

On October 19, a judicial magistrate sent Hassan to judicial remand after refusing the NCCIA’s request to extend his physical remand. The agency had earlier produced him before the Judicial Magistrate-East, alleging he posted anti-state material online. The court rejected the remand bid and told the NCCIA to file the challan within 14 days.

Hassan was taken into custody in Lahore’s Defence Housing Authority area and later brought to Karachi at about 1:00 AM.
