Unpaid electricity bills in Allahwala Town, Korangi Crossing, now total millions of rupees, according to K-Electric. The utility says combined technical and commercial losses in the area have passed 60 percent.

A K-Electric spokesperson blamed the losses on electricity theft and non-payment of bills. Despite repeated drives to remove illegal connections, known as kundas, and efforts to improve recovery, residents kept stealing power and defaulting, the spokesperson said.

Utility seeks police and local help on recovery

The utility said it is working closely with law-enforcement agencies and local representatives to recover outstanding payments. It stressed that bill recovery is essential for a reliable electricity supply.

The duration of load-shedding in the area depends on the level of theft and bill recovery, the spokesperson added.
