BCCI Rewards Indian Cricket Team with Record INR 131 Crore for T20 World Cup Triumph

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared an unprecedented cash reward of INR 131 crore for the Indian cricket team after their spectacular and record-setting defense of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2026. This announcement comes in the wake of India’s emphatic victory over New Zealand in the final, held at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, where the team not only retained their crown but also made history by becoming the first nation to win the T20 World Cup three times.

India’s triumph was particularly significant as they broke a longstanding pattern in the tournament’s history. Prior to this, no defending champion had managed to even reach the final, let alone secure back-to-back titles. By clinching the championship for a second consecutive time, India has firmly established itself as the dominant force in men’s T20 cricket on the global stage. This victory has added another illustrious chapter to the country’s rich cricketing legacy.

While the BCCI has not yet detailed the exact breakdown of the INR 131 crore reward, it is widely anticipated that the prize money will be distributed among the players, coaching staff, and selection committee members who played critical roles in this historic achievement. The Board extended its heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved, emphasizing the collective effort behind the team’s success and expressing hopes for continued excellence in future tournaments.

The final match itself was a display of sheer dominance by the Indian side. Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 255 runs for the loss of just five wickets. Key contributions came from Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan, each scoring impressive half-centuries that laid a solid foundation for the massive total. In response, New Zealand’s batting lineup struggled to keep pace, largely due to the devastating bowling performance of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah’s spell of four wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs effectively dismantled the Kiwi chase, sealing a commanding 96-run victory for the hosts.

This generous cash reward surpasses the INR 125 crore prize distributed after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win. At that time, each of the 15 players received INR 5 crore, the coaching staff members were awarded INR 2.5 crore each, and the senior selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, took home INR 1 crore per member. The increased reward this year reflects not only the magnitude of the achievement but also the growing financial muscle and ambition of Indian cricket.

With this win, India currently holds two major ICC trophies simultaneously—the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup. The team now sets its sights on the upcoming ODI World Cup, aiming to complete an extraordinary collection of major international cricket titles. This period marks a golden era for Indian cricket, showcasing a blend of experienced leadership and emerging talent that promises to keep the nation at the forefront of the sport for years to come.
