Bangladesh’s second innings unravels in Mirpur

Bangladesh resumed the fourth day on 79 for 6, with a lead of 106, but their hopes suffered an early blow. Jaker Ali edged Warrican to slip, where Chase held the catch. Jaker’s 22 off 34 balls was the second-highest score in the innings.

Roston Chase finished with 5-36 in the second innings, the fifth five-wicket haul of his Test career. Nayeem Hasan survived two dropped chances off Chase, on 21 and 29, and put on 26 with Hasan Mahmud before Warrican trapped the latter lbw for eight. Taijul Islam then contributed eight in a 17-run stand with Nayeem before Chase removed him, leaving Bangladesh at 127 for 9.

Nayeem Hasan’s maiden fifty delays the end

Nayeem reached his maiden Test half-century from 87 balls, including four boundaries. His innings ended when he tried to hit Chase over long-on and was caught by Joshua Bishop. He finished on 52 off 91 balls, while Shoriful Islam stayed unbeaten on seven as Bangladesh were dismissed cheaply.

Openers King and Campbell set the chase alight

West Indies made a confident start, with King and John Campbell maintaining an aggressive approach. They reached 64 without loss in 14.1 overs before rain interrupted play. After a delay of around an hour, they added 23 more runs before bad light and lightning brought a further stoppage of 45 minutes.

King was dropped on 70 by substitute fielder Ebadot Hossain off Taijul after the break, but he made Bangladesh pay with an unbeaten innings. Campbell fell just short of a half-century, bowled by Shoriful for 49 off 55 balls, with six fours and a six.

The second Test will be played in Sylhet from November 5.
