Thousands of runners and cycling enthusiasts are expected to join the Pinktober Run on Saturday in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The event, organised by Sports In Pakistan, is designed to raise breast cancer awareness and support fundraising for the cause.
The race will offer 5km and 10km runs, a 20km cycling category and a 30km challenge open to participants in the Karachi Distance Series. Organisers say the initiative will bring communities together through sport while stressing early detection and timely medical consultation.
Event aims to unite communities through sport
Speaking ahead of the event, Shoaib Nizami, CEO of Sports In Pakistan, said the initiative aimed to channel participants’ collective energy towards a meaningful cause. “Running has the power to bring people together beyond finish lines and personal achievements,” he said.
Nizami said every participant would help spread an important message and support a cause that affects countless families. He said Pinktober was a reminder of the value of awareness, early detection and timely medical consultation.
Nizami also said the initiative hoped to encourage conversations about breast cancer, inspire support for those affected by the disease and show how sporting communities can contribute positively to society.
Multiple distances open to varied fitness levels
The distances are designed to draw people with different fitness levels and sporting experience. Runners can pick the 5km or 10km course, while cyclists can enter the 20km category. The 30km challenge is limited to participants in the Karachi Distance Series.
The organisers expect thousands of participants across the three cities. They hope the event will promote healthier lifestyles, community engagement and breast cancer awareness through sport.
