Milan back fan boycott of Udinese match over ticket prices

AC Milan has publicly backed supporters planning to boycott Sunday’s Serie A fixture at Udinese, arguing that high away ticket prices are unfair on travelling fans. Tickets for visiting supporters were listed at €65 ($73).

In a statement, the club said excessive pricing could widen divisions between clubs and weaken efforts to raise the profile of Italian football. It stressed that the sport’s global appeal relies heavily on the loyalty of supporters of clubs such as Milan.

Milan calls for a league-wide cap on away tickets

Milan urged Serie A to consider a cap on away ticket prices across the league, pointing to England’s Premier League, which caps tickets at 30 pounds ($40). The club also warned that it could adopt a reciprocal policy.

Under that proposal, fans of clubs charging above-average prices to Milan supporters could face higher ticket costs when visiting San Siro, subject to league regulations. Additional proceeds would be “donated to Fondazione Milan to support charitable initiatives”.

Long-running dispute with Curva Sud over prices

Ticket pricing has been a long-standing issue for the Curva Sud supporters’ group, which boycotted Milan’s away match at Juventus in 2023 in protest. The group renewed its complaints last season over prices for Milan’s fixtures against Juventus.

The group also accused Torino of overcharging visiting fans. Milan added that Italian football “cannot grow stronger by treating supporters differently based on the size of their club.”
