    Pakistan to Create First Federal Crime Database for Heinous Offenders

    The Ministry of Interior has initiated plans to develop Pakistan’s inaugural federal crime list, consolidating information on individuals involved in serious and organized crimes nationwide. This central database aims to streamline records of proclaimed and absconding criminals, terrorists, and those engaged in money laundering, human and drug trafficking, cybercrime, and financial fraud.

    Data collection will be coordinated through the Command and Control Centre of the National Police Bureau, integrating records maintained by provincial inspectors general of police, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and other relevant bodies into a unified system. This effort will facilitate the creation of a comprehensive federal crime list.

    Notably, the database will also encompass details of members and office-bearers of banned organizations, as well as individuals involved in terrorism financing. Additionally, suspects linked to interprovincial and transnational organized crime, including smuggling, will be included.

    The scope of the list extends to those involved in cybercrime and financial fraud, with considerations underway to incorporate individuals engaged in crimes related to begging. Furthermore, the database will feature records of persons subject to Interpol Red Notices and other international alerts.

    In a significant development, officials are contemplating assigning a unique National Criminal Identification Number to every individual listed. This number would be connected to the individual’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), enabling a centralized system for tracking criminal records across law enforcement and investigative agencies.
