Firdous Shamim Naqvi has stepped down as additional secretary-general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying his exit was not driven by any complaint or dispute.

Naqvi also said he had not yet issued a show-cause notice to PTI senator Mishaal Yousafzai. His announcement follows a directive from PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, issued two days earlier, asking him to send that notice over an alleged breach of party discipline.

Chairman’s directive over alleged breach of party rules

The chairman said Naqvi, a senior party leader, had been told to issue the notice over what he called a violation of party rules. Gohar Ali Khan said he had always backed everyone’s right to voice differing views on the party platform.

He added that disagreements raised through the proper party forum did not bother him personally, though he said action was sometimes necessary. He accused Yousafzai of speaking openly about the party’s senior leadership and breaking discipline, and said she had been warned before about such conduct.
