Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, has vowed to bring about a complete defeat of militants and the ideology behind them. He reaffirmed the military’s determination to keep its counterterrorism campaign going across Pakistan.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the army chief visited Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Friday, where he was updated on the security environment and operations in the region.

During the visit, Munir received briefings on ongoing operations, border management and the readiness of formations deployed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He praised the high morale and professionalism of officers and soldiers, instructing them to stay vigilant and maintain the highest level of readiness.

He stressed that the campaign against militant groups he described as Indian-sponsored would continue with full force, and that the military would strike them hard wherever they operate. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of the nation, including martyrs and ghazis from the security forces, he said public support would help Pakistan defeat terrorists and their distorted ideology, the military’s media wing said.

On arrival, Munir was received by the Commander Peshawar Corps, ISPR added.

Shehbaz Sharif pledges joint action for the province

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he would work with the military leadership to address the problems facing the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He said the province had suffered greatly from years of unrest and neglect.

Chairing a federal Apex Committee meeting at the Governor House in Peshawar, Sharif said emergency and governor’s rule had been imposed in the province under ‘extreme compulsion’. He expressed hope that the move would help advance peace and development there.

Sharif also said the country’s economy had stabilised through the efforts of political and military leaders. He added that coordinated action was needed to secure lasting peace and development in KP.
