Security forces have killed three militants and surrounded seven others in Gwadar, security sources said on Thursday, as operations continue after an attempted attack on a construction company’s unoccupied camp was foiled.

According to the sources, troops responded quickly to the assault by militants they linked to Fitna al Hindustan and prevented them from reaching the vacant compound. Three attackers died in the engagement, and three more were trapped at the location, the sources added.

Hotel standoff near the Gwadar highway

Separately, forces were conducting an operation against militants inside a hotel near the Gwadar highway after what was described as another attempted attack. Four militants in the building had been encircled, the sources said.

The sources said the Gwadar General Officer Commanding was personally leading the operation.

Rising cross-border attacks and Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions

The incidents come amid a sharp rise in cross-border militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021. Pakistan recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years in September 2026.

Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban regime has failed to act effectively against groups responsible for attacks on its security forces and civilians. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop its territory being used for such attacks, yet the two sides have not resolved their differences despite several rounds of talks.
