Rawalpindi Woman’s Murder Sparks Nationwide Outcry for Justice

The tragic death of Hina Javed in Rawalpindi’s Lalkurti area has ignited widespread outrage on social media platforms, prompting calls from both celebrities and citizens for justice and increased efforts to combat violence against women. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station, with authorities confirming that Hina had been married for nine months before her death.

Her body was discovered in a bathroom at her residence, with the first information report revealing that her hands were tied behind her back and her mouth was gagged with a piece of cloth. Police have detained two suspects, including Hina’s husband and a domestic worker, while her father-in-law has been named in the case but remains at large.

Notably, prominent Pakistani actress Mahira Khan expressed her sorrow over the incident on Instagram, sharing a letter from Hina’s family along with a photograph of the victim in her bridal attire. Meanwhile, actor Iffat Omar publicly appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene in cases involving violence against women. Iffat explicitly accused Hina’s husband of the murder and drew attention to another case in Islamabad, where a woman named Hina Zarif was allegedly killed by her family for rejecting a forced marriage.

Addressing the chief minister, Iffat urged her to act not just as a politician but as a woman who understands the struggles faced by women, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability.

Social media users have also voiced their grief and condemnation of the killing. One user described the incident as “so sad” and extended condolences to Hina’s family, praying for her elevated status in the afterlife. Another called on people across Pakistan to unite in support of the victim and her family, urging solidarity from Rawalpindi residents and the wider public.

In a significant development, a social media campaign demanding justice for Hina has gained momentum. An Instagram page titled “Justice for Hina Javed,” reportedly managed by her family and friends, was created to raise awareness and pursue accountability for the crime. The page, which had nearly 3,000 followers shortly after its launch, features the hashtag #JusticeforHina and states that Hina was “brutally murdered by her husband in Rawalpindi on August 20, 2026.” It continues to share updates and encourages the public to amplify calls for justice.
