Mir Raza case: family seeks JIT and release of inquiry report

The father of Mir Raza, an entrepreneur who was killed, has demanded the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe his son’s murder. Speaking to the media outside a Karachi court on Monday, Mir Hussain was accompanied by his counsel, advocate Jibran Nasir.

Hussain said the police had been negligent in investigating the case and that the findings of the judicial commission had confirmed the family’s fears. He urged Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Faryal Talpur to hand the commission’s report to the family and make it public after the cabinet meeting.

Family seeks action against negligent police officers

Hussain also called for action against the police officers the commission found negligent. He said the family had repeatedly raised concerns in the media about the police’s poor performance, shortcomings and deficiencies in the investigation.

He added that the commission’s proceedings had validated those concerns, and he repeated his demand for strict action against the officers responsible.

Sindh government receives sealed commission report

On Thursday, Additional Secretary Home Javed Abro said the Sindh government had received the judicial commission’s report in a sealed envelope. He said the government would now decide the next course of action in the case.

Abro said the commission’s proceedings had been held in open court, while the final report was handed over in sealed form. The report’s receipt marks the next stage of the case, and further decisions rest with the Sindh government, which will also decide whether the report should be made public.

Commission hearings, findings and case timeline

The commission, headed by SHC Justice Omar Sial, has recorded statements from 49 individuals connected to the case. It held 15 hearings and recorded two statements via video link. The commission was constituted on August 24.

Mir Raza Ali’s body was found in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on July 29. An initial post-mortem examination was conducted, followed by a second examination after the body was exhumed.

The report covers the police investigation, the medico-legal section and the Health Department. It also examines institutional shortcomings linked to the case, and was prepared under the terms of reference set by the Sindh government.
