PESCO announces six-month power shutdown schedule in Peshawar

The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has unveiled a six-month timetable of planned outages for upkeep and expansion of its power network. The utility has also discouraged shutdowns on Fridays and Sundays.

According to an official notification, the timetable will be in force from 16 October 2026 until 31 March 2027. The company wants departments to bundle repair tasks wherever feasible, so consumers face fewer interruptions and each outage lasts less time.

Strict compliance and emergency shutdown rules

PESCO has ordered departments to follow the approved plan closely, stating that routine changes or additions to scheduled shutdowns will not be allowed. If an unavoidable emergency arises, the responsible department must file a formal written request for an extra shutdown.

Officials are required to notify key and industrial consumers, hospitals, educational institutions and community leaders before planned cuts, so essential services are less affected. Staff have also been told to avoid maintenance shutdowns on Fridays and Sundays unless absolutely necessary.

Safety measures and goal of reliable supply

All required safety measures must be applied during the work to protect staff and the public. PESCO officials said the project is intended to upgrade the distribution system and deliver a more dependable supply to consumers in the coming season.
