K-Electric meter reader critically injured in Karachi shooting

A K-Electric meter reader was critically injured in a targeted firing incident in Karachi’s Mahmoodabad area on Tuesday. Unidentified assailants opened fire on the employee, who suffered five to six gunshot wounds.

A second meter reader who was with him escaped unharmed by fleeing the scene. The attackers left on a motorcycle. The injured man was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for emergency treatment, and police have registered a First Information Report and started an investigation.

Temporary load management ends after gas supply restored

In a separate statement, K-Electric announced the end of temporary load management across Karachi after regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) supply was restored. The utility said power generation from the BQPS-III plant had stabilised, improving electricity supply.

However, scheduled load shedding will continue in areas with high electricity theft and low bill recovery, the company said. Its regular load-shedding schedule is available on its official website. The utility also thanked Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and relevant authorities, and expressed gratitude to consumers for their patience.

Earlier outages hit previously exempt Karachi areas

Before that, K-Electric had begun load shedding in several areas previously exempt from power cuts and extended outages in areas already facing scheduled load shedding, causing difficulties for residents. The power utility reportedly began one-hour phased load shedding in those areas, though supply in several localities remained suspended for more than two hours.

Reported affected areas included Saddar, Clifton, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Korangi, as well as Orangi Town, Liaquatabad, North Karachi and North Nazimabad. Residents of Malir, Landhi, SITE, Baldia, Mauripur and several other localities also faced outages, while severe load shedding affected the Old City Area and Razzaqabad.

K-Electric had attributed the supply constraints to a shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which reduced electricity generation.
