The Sindh government has decided to take a zero-tolerance approach to private schools operating in dangerous and dilapidated buildings, a report said on Tuesday.
Education department orders halt and building inspections
The provincial education department has directed schools to immediately stop educational activities in dangerous buildings. It has also ordered a comprehensive inspection of private school buildings within 15 days.
School managements have been told to move students to safer alternative premises. Authorities warned that children, teachers and other staff will not be allowed to remain in dangerous buildings. Surveys will identify dangerous and partly damaged structures, and school associations have been instructed to enforce building safety standards immediately.
Registration reviews and action against unregistered schools
Authorities have decided to review the registration of private schools running in dilapidated buildings. “Legal action will be taken against the schools in dangerous buildings, which could be closed if required,” the report said.
Unregistered educational institutions will be traced, and legal action will be taken against them. Authorities have also summoned a report on the inspections and affected students within 15 days.
