Kuwait’s General Traffic Department (GTD), a department of the Ministry of Interior, has launched a security operation aimed at cracking down on driver violations and eliminating illegal transport providers across the country.
The operation was personally led by GTD Director General Brigadier General Rashid Hammoud, with Assistant Director Ayoub Al-Ayoub taking part. It targeted public buses and private cars being used for unlicensed transport services.
Traffic violations and vehicles seized in the crackdown
When the operation concluded, traffic officers had issued 338 violations for various traffic offences. A further 26 violations were issued to people using privately owned cars to carry passengers for a fee without the required permits.
The department also seized 27 vehicles and referred 27 violators to traffic custody, where they will go through administrative and legal procedures.
Officials warn of harsh penalties nationwide
GTD officials stressed that violators will face harsh penalties. They described the action as part of a comprehensive campaign covering all governorates of Kuwait, aimed at regulating and organising traffic movement.
