The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) announced on Friday that water supply in several parts of Karachi will be suspended for two days starting Saturday due to maintenance work at the Dhabeji Pumping Station. This temporary disruption is necessary to connect a newly constructed pipeline to the existing network at the station.
the updated schedule, nine pumps at Dhabeji will be shut down for 48 hours beginning at noon on April 25. While seven of these pumps are expected to resume operations by April 27, the remaining two will remain offline for an additional five days to complete the work.
The suspension will affect water distribution in multiple areas, including North Karachi, Surjani, Scheme 33, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Landhi, Korangi, and Chanesar Town. Additionally, hydrants in Nipa, Safoora, and Sakhi Hassan will be closed for maintenance during this period.
This interruption is anticipated to cause a daily shortfall of approximately 250 million gallons of water, considering Karachi’s total daily supply is around 650 million gallons. KWSC has urged residents in the impacted zones to conserve water and use it judiciously while the work is underway.
