In a disturbing case from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, authorities have detained a 76-year-old man for allegedly hiding his daughter’s body and residing with her skeletal remains for more than five months. The police recovered the skeleton of Priyanka Biswas, a highly educated IT professional, from their residence following concerns raised by her relatives.
Priyanka, who held two master’s degrees and an M.Tech, was found on a bed inside the home, her skeleton covered with a cloth as if she were merely asleep. Her father, Uday Bhanu Biswas, a retired education department clerk, had been living in the same house with the remains during this period. Initially, he misled neighbors and family members by claiming that Priyanka was receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Dehradun.
The situation came to light on a Friday afternoon when a relative, growing suspicious of her absence, confronted the elderly man about Priyanka’s whereabouts. After persistent questioning, he admitted she was at home. Upon entering the house, relatives were horrified to discover the skeletal remains, prompting them to alert the police immediately.
Authorities conducted a thorough search of the residence, uncovering several small perfume bottles believed to have been used to mask the odor of decomposition. The remains were sent for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Officials estimate that Priyanka passed away approximately five months prior to the discovery. She was last seen on December 5, after which she had no contact with her family.
Priyanka had been living a secluded life following the death of her mother around 13 years ago. She worked as a computer instructor at a private institution. The police investigation is being led by Civil Lines Circle Officer Naveen Shukla, who has initiated further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding her death and the father’s actions.
