Houthi-run media said on Saturday that Saudi air raids in Yemen’s Sanaa province had left 22 dead, most of them women and children, as bloodshed deepens in the country’s civil war.

The United Nations says more than 1,600 people have been killed and over 300,000 forced from their homes since fighting resumed in the impoverished nation.

Casualties reported in the Al-Shariyah strike

Saba, the Houthis’ news agency, said the death toll in the Al-Shariyah area had climbed to 22, with 30 people wounded. Al-Masirah TV reported the same figures.

Saba added that rescuers were still pulling victims from the rubble and claimed aircraft had targeted paramedics in two separate strikes. Al-Masirah aired footage it said was shot in Al-Shariyah, showing smoke above a struck site, debris and wounded patients in hospital.

Saudi Arabia, which is fighting in Yemen to support the internationally recognised government, has not commented on the report.

Saudi-led coalition and rival accusations over Taiz

The Saudi-led coalition said in a statement on Saturday that it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi missile fired toward Riyadh province.

A day earlier, an attack on a market in Taiz province killed 30 people. The Houthis blamed Saudi airstrikes, while Yemen’s government forces accused the Iran-backed group of firing a ballistic missile at the site.

Yemen returned to war between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed government in July, ending years of relative calm and opening a new front in the wider Middle East conflict. Since then, Saudi Arabia has regularly bombed Houthi positions, while the group has stepped up attacks on the oil-rich kingdom.
