Donald Trump said on Friday that Susie Wiles, the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff, will leave her post. In a post on Truth Social, the president announced her departure and named immigration hardliner Stephen Miller as her replacement.
The shake-up of his inner circle comes as a number of senior women have been steadily leaving his administration. It also follows days after a sweeping blue wave in the midterm elections gave Democrats control of both chambers of Congress.
Wiles thanked the president for what she described as the ‘honor of a lifetime’.
Her exit leaves a top leadership team that is heavily male.
