PSV Eindhoven Clinch Third Consecutive Dutch Title as Feyenoord Draw

PSV Eindhoven secured the Dutch Eredivisie championship on Sunday, marking their third consecutive league title. This achievement was confirmed when their closest rivals, Feyenoord, failed to secure a victory in their match against Volendam, which ended in a goalless draw.

PSV had already strengthened their position with a thrilling 4-3 home win over Utrecht on Saturday, bringing their total to 71 points from 29 matches. Feyenoord, needing a win to keep their slim title hopes alive, remained on 54 points after the draw, trailing PSV by an unassailable 17 points with five games left in the season.

The confirmation of PSV’s triumph sparked celebrations throughout Eindhoven, where fans had been eagerly awaiting the outcome of Feyenoord’s match. The Saturday victory had virtually guaranteed the title due to PSV’s superior goal difference of +42 compared to Feyenoord’s +21, but the Sunday draw officially sealed their success.

This marks the third occasion in PSV’s history that they have won three consecutive league titles. Previously, they achieved four consecutive championships from 1986 to 1989 and again from 2005 to 2008. With this latest triumph, PSV now boasts a total of 27 Eredivisie titles, second only to Ajax Amsterdam’s record of 36.

Looking ahead, PSV will participate in the UEFA Champions League group stage for the fourth consecutive season next year. The league runners-up will also enter the Champions League group phase for the 2026-27 campaign, while the third-placed team will enter the third qualifying round.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord remains just one point ahead of the surprise package NEC Nijmegen. Twente has climbed to fourth place after a notable 2-1 away victory against Ajax on Saturday.

PSV is set to receive their trophy during a ceremony at Philips Stadion on Tuesday. However, the celebrations are tempered by the news that captain Jerdy Schouten suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the match against Utrecht, ruling the 29-year-old midfielder out of the upcoming World Cup in June.
