Police said on Sunday they are looking into a suspected surveillance attempt after a drone struck the structure that holds the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) headquarters in Lahore. Officials believe the device may have been sent with terrorist intent.
The crash happened at about 12:30am, when a modern surveillance drone approached the headquarters from the Jallo Mor side and hit the building, according to police. Investigators think the aircraft was being used to scout the internal areas of the complex.
Device cleared and seized by CTD security team
The Bomb Disposal Squad examined the drone and cleared it, after which the CTD security team took it into custody. Police said the cameras attached to the drone and its battery lights were still working when it was recovered.
Police suspect unidentified individuals flew the drone toward the headquarters to carry out a terrorist activity. However, the circumstances of the incident and the drone’s purpose are still under investigation.
Legal action sought over Harbanspura application
The security team has filed an application at Harbanspura police station seeking legal action, police said. They added that investigations are under way from every angle.
