PTI leader Shaukat Yousafzai has said the party’s alliance with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) is confined to parliament and does not extend beyond it. He also alleged that former accountability adviser Shahzad Akbar is targeting him and the party from abroad.

Speaking on a television talk show, Yousafzai said PTI backed JUI-F only on specific issues, which did not mean it endorsed everything the group said. He said JUI-F’s words and actions were its own responsibility, and that political parties had to be careful on certain matters.

PTI’s position on JUI-F and remarks from abroad

Yousafzai admitted that his party had made mistakes in the past. He said statements by people living overseas were repeatedly linked to PTI even though they had no connection to the party, adding that critics based abroad did not speak for it.

Yousafzai’s remarks on Shahzad Akbar

Turning to Shahzad Akbar, Yousafzai said Pakistan and PTI founder Imran Khan had shown him considerable respect. He alleged that Akbar was targeting him and the party from abroad.

Yousafzai further said people who had left Imran Khan and moved overseas were claiming they were not doing anything. “We are patriots, unlike you, who have become fugitives and are sitting abroad,” he said.
