PTI leader Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif has accused opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas of failing to do enough to secure the release of party founder Imran Khan. Speaking on a television programme called Jirga, Saif questioned the efforts of both men on the matter.

Claims about Raja Nasir and his establishment contacts

Saif said Senate Opposition Leader Raja Nasir was in touch with key figures in the establishment, but insisted those contacts had no aim of getting Imran out of prison. He also said Raja Nasir’s outlook was “limited to the deputy commissioner, tehsildar and patwari”, adding that former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur had helped him become a senator.

Allegations against Achakzai over talks with Shehbaz

Saif claimed National Assembly Opposition Leader Achakzai was reluctant to sit down with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for negotiations on Imran’s behalf. He said Achakzai had won back a seat he had lost with the help of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, yet would not engage with the premier on talks. Saif further said Achakzai went to Quetta at a crucial point in the negotiation process.

Saif says Achakzai’s role and family appeal

According to Saif, Imran made Achakzai opposition leader so he could engage with the government, yet Achakzai was doing nothing for the PTI founder. Saif also alleged Achakzai had approached Nawaz and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to secure his son’s release.
