The Punjab Home Department has developed an extensive security plan across the province to safeguard public safety, uphold law and order, and promote religious harmony during the forthcoming holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
Under stringent administrative orders, authorities have mandated that only licensed processions and officially approved majalis will be allowed to proceed. Organizers in every district are legally required to follow designated routes and adhere to pre-approved schedules to avoid any security or administrative failures.
This security framework emphasizes advanced technology and layered surveillance measures. Key components include compulsory CCTV camera installations, walk-through gates, and metal detectors at all entry points. Additionally, audio and video recordings of all religious events will be conducted to closely monitor activities.
To strengthen security, heightened vigilance will be maintained along procession routes. High-risk sites such as commercial markets, transport hubs, and critical installations will be under strict observation, while hotels and guest houses will face thorough inspections. The administration also plans to deploy drone surveillance along provincial borders and riverine areas, with the possible use of signal jammers and snipers at sensitive locations.
In a significant development, the Home Department has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy regarding sectarianism. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to rigorously enforce the Loudspeaker Act and clamp down on the public display of weapons, hate speech, and the spread of sectarian or extremist propaganda. Cyber monitoring units have been placed on high alert to prevent the circulation of inflammatory content on social media platforms.
Alongside the policing measures, emergency services including public hospitals, Rescue 1122, bomb disposal teams, and fire brigades have been directed to remain on standby throughout the province. Meanwhile, local administrations are engaging peace committees and religious scholars to actively encourage interfaith unity and tolerance during the mourning period.
