The Balochistan government has dismissed 72 more doctors for prolonged absence from duty, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said on Saturday. The dismissals form part of a province-wide crackdown on absenteeism in the health department, according to the chief minister.

Bugti added that the total number of government workers sacked over unauthorised absence has climbed to 200. He also announced that an artificial intelligence (AI)-based attendance system has been introduced in the provincial health department for the first time. The system is intended to monitor staff attendance and strengthen accountability.

Salary deductions and notices issued to thousands of staff

The chief minister said the government has deducted Rs410 million from employees’ salaries over disciplinary violations. In addition, 11,000 employees have received show-cause notices for negligence and failure to carry out their duties.

Departmental proceedings are also under way against 800 government employees, he said. Bugti stressed that civil servants are public servants who must perform their responsibilities honestly and with dedication. He said no employee would be allowed to receive a salary while staying at home, and that negligence and absenteeism in public service would not be tolerated.

Official notice on dismissals shared online

Bugti also posted the official notification concerning the dismissed employees on social media. The post comes as the province pushes to tighten oversight of its health workforce.
