Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti declared on Sunday that Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, a hospital staff member who assisted a female doctor following an acid attack at Quetta’s Civil Hospital, will be honored with a civil award. The announcement came alongside a photograph of Tarakai, highlighting his bravery during the incident.

The attack occurred on Saturday when Dr Mahnoor Nisar was assaulted with acid inside the medical facility. Initially treated at a private hospital in Quetta, she was later transferred to Karachi for specialized care. Police confirmed that the suspect responsible for the attack was killed in an encounter.

Hospital officials reported that Dr Nisar is currently in stable condition. Reconstructive surgeons and eye specialists have completed their evaluations, revealing that she sustained burn injuries on her face, abdomen, legs, and right hand. She has been moved to a Special Care Unit for ongoing treatment. The burns cover approximately 13% of her body, and while her eyes were affected by the acid, her vision remains intact, and she is out of danger.

In a significant development, Chief Minister Bugti praised Tarakai as a “precious asset to society” for his prompt and selfless response during the attack. He emphasized that individuals who risk their own safety to help others represent the highest ideals of humanity. “A civil award will be presented to Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, an employee of Civil Hospital Quetta, who demonstrated exceptional courage, compassion, and dedication by providing immediate aid during the tragic acid attack on Lady Doctor Mahnoor Nisar,” the CM stated.

Bugti reiterated the government’s commitment to recognizing and supporting those who act selflessly in the protection of human life and service to society. Earlier, the chief minister personally spoke with Tarakai, who sustained burn injuries while trying to save Dr Nisar. “You served humanity without regard for your own safety,” Bugti told him, commending his bravery.

The CM assured that the Balochistan government will cover all medical expenses for Tarakai and will arrange for treatment at the country’s premier medical facilities if necessary.
